The Story of Our Therapy Building

Why We Started

The idea for a therapy building did not begin as a construction project.

It began with a simple need: we wanted to create a better place for Kristián to live, recover, exercise and continue his rehabilitation at home.

After everything that happened to Kristián, we learned that rehabilitation is not something that happens only during a therapy session. Movement, positioning, stimulation, communication and exercise can all become part of everyday life.

Kristián has received valuable therapy in specialised therapy centres, but travelling to these centres is not always easy for him or for us. We wanted to create a place where we could continue the work started in the therapy centres without the need for constant travelling.

A dedicated therapy space would also allow therapy and rehabilitation to become part of his everyday routine, rather than something that happens only when we can travel to a therapy appointment.

Therapy can happen every day.

Our home gave us the opportunity to care for Kristián ourselves, but it also had its limitations. We began thinking about what we could create next to our house: a dedicated space where Kristián could continue his therapy, where we could use the equipment he needs, and where the things he learns during specialised therapy could become part of his daily life.

Over time, the idea developed into something much bigger.

We decided to build a dedicated therapy space on our own property.

Not a large medical centre. Not a commercial rehabilitation facility.

Just a place where Kristián could have the space and equipment he needs — and where, eventually, other people with similar needs could also benefit.

From an Idea to a Real Project

Turning the idea into reality was not easy.

A project like this costs much more than we could simply take from our normal family budget. We therefore started looking for ways to finance it.

One of the important steps was our Donio fundraiser. We shared our story and asked people to help us make the therapy building possible.

The fundraiser did not reach the original target we had hoped for, but it gave us something extremely important: people who believed in what we were trying to do.

And there was something else that touched us deeply.

Many of the people who donated also took the time to write us a personal message.

We loved reading those messages.

People we had never met wrote us kind words, encouragement and wishes for Kristián. Some shared their own experiences, while others simply wanted us to know that they were thinking of us and supporting what we were trying to do.

For us, those words often meant more than the money that was donated.

The money helped us build the therapy building.

But the words helped us keep going.

They reminded us that behind every donation was a person who had stopped for a moment, read our story and decided to care.

That is something we will never forget.

Alongside the money raised through Donio, we decided to put our own savings into the project. We wanted to show that this was not simply something we were asking other people to build for us.

We were prepared to invest in it ourselves and do whatever we could to make it happen.

And then something very special happened.

Run for Kristián

Teachers and students from Střední škola Semily organised the “Run for Kristián” event.

But it was not only the students and teachers who took part. Many other people also joined the run and ran for Kristián.

For us, this was much more than financial help.

Seeing so many people come together and run for Kristián was incredibly touching. It showed us that his story had reached people far beyond our own family and that there were people who wanted to stand beside us.

The event became another important part of the story of our building.

It reminded us that although this started as something very personal for our family, we were no longer walking this road alone.

The Support We Received

Along the way, many private individuals and companies have also supported us.

Some people donated a small amount. Others gave considerably more. Every contribution, regardless of its size, helped us take another step forward.

There is something very special about that.

When the therapy building is eventually finished, it will not simply be a building that we paid for and constructed ourselves.

It will carry a little part of everyone who believed in this project and decided to support us.

We are deeply grateful to every person and every company that has stood behind us.

Their support gave us much more than financial help. It also gave us the feeling that what we were trying to do mattered.

When We Realised We Would Have to Build It Ourselves

One of the biggest challenges came when we started looking for a construction company to help us with the foundation and concrete floor.

Unfortunately, we could not find a company that had the time to take on the work within the timeframe we needed.

For a while, this was a serious problem.

But eventually we made a decision:

If nobody had the time to build it for us, we would build it ourselves.

And that is what we started doing.

With our own hands, with the help of some truly great volunteers, and with a lot of learning along the way.

It has meant much more work than we originally expected. There have been difficult days, heavy materials, digging, concrete, planning, mistakes, corrections and plenty of tired evenings.

But there has also been something incredibly rewarding about seeing the building slowly become real.

What started as an idea on paper is now physically taking shape in our garden.

The Work Has Begun

The first major step was removing the old garage.

The garage had to be demolished to make space for the new therapy building. After the demolition, there was still a huge amount of work to do. All the old bricks, concrete, rubble and other material had to be removed and the area completely cleaned.

Then we began preparing everything that needed to go underneath the future building.

The infrastructure was installed before the foundation was completed. Cold and warm water pipes, sewer pipes, electrical cables and network cables were all brought into the ground.

The building materials for the foundation were then ordered and delivered.

And finally came one of the biggest milestones:

The foundation concrete was poured.

After that, we started building the foundation walls.

The therapy building itself has also been ordered, with an expected lead time of approximately 10–12 weeks.

While the building is being prepared, we are continuing with the work here.

And that is where we are today.

The foundation wall is still rising, one section at a time, built by us and the wonderful volunteers who have decided to help us.

One Step at a Time

When we look back at where this project started, it is sometimes hard to believe how far we have already come.

What began with a simple thought — could we create a better place for Kristián to continue his rehabilitation at home? — slowly became a plan, then a fundraiser, then a community of people supporting us, and finally a real construction project in our own garden.

There have been moments when the project seemed too difficult.

There have been moments when we did not know how we would pay for the next step or how we would manage the next part of the construction.

But somehow, the next step always appeared.

A donation came in. Someone organised an event. Someone offered their support. We found a solution. Or we simply rolled up our sleeves and did the work ourselves.

And that is how this building is being created.

Not all at once, but step by step.

Not by one person, but by many people who have become part of its story.

We Will Finish What We Started

We still have a long way to go.

The foundation must be finished. The building must arrive and be installed. Then there will be the interior work, the utilities, the finishing touches and finally the installation of the therapy equipment.

But we will keep going.

We will finish what we started.

We will build this place for Kristián — a place where he can continue to move, learn, communicate, exercise and make progress in his own way.

A place where therapy becomes part of everyday life.

A place where there is room for hope, patience and small victories.

And when the building is finally ready, we hope that everyone who helped us along the way will be able to look at it and know that they were part of making it possible.

This is our project, but it is also a story we are writing together.

There is still work ahead of us.

There will probably be more challenges.

But we have come this far, and we will continue — one step, one day and one piece of the building at a time.

The story is still being written.

🤍 If You Would Like to Help

If our story has touched you and you would like to become part of it, we would be very grateful.

There are many ways to help us continue building the therapy space for Kristián. A donation can help us with the next steps of the construction and, later, with the equipment and finishing touches that will turn the building into a real place for daily therapy.

But help does not always have to be financial.

Perhaps you have a skill, experience, idea or simply some time that you would like to share with us. Maybe you know someone who could help with something we are working on. Or perhaps you would simply like to share our story with someone else.

Every form of support means something to us.

We have already experienced how much can happen when people come together around something they believe in. The therapy building is being built with our own hands, but also with the support, encouragement and kindness of many people who have become part of our journey.

If you would like to help us take the next step, you can make a donation below.

If you would like to help us in another way, please send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We would be happy to hear from you.

Thank you for believing in us, for believing in Kristián, and for being part of our story. ❤️
